Infectious diseases are one of the major threats to humans and other species in nature. Historically, each outbreak and spread of the infectious diseases would cause severe personnel casualty and property losses. From 541 to 750, between 50% and 60% of Europeans were killed by Plague of Justinian. Today, infectious diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. For example, about 10% of all deaths every year are caused by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. The threat of avian influenza in Asian countries is still not going to disappear. In order to reduce the harm of an infectious disease, mathematical models are used to investigate the mechanisms for outbreak and spread of diseases and to evaluate strategies’ efficiency. So far, many famous models have been established and have been widely used in infectious diseases prediction and control [1]. They can be roughly classified into two types: Stochastic models and deterministic models. Stochastic models have random nature and are used to estimate the probabilistic quantities for the outcome events, whereas deterministic models are established usually by differential equations and are used to predict the time evolution, such as contact rate and recovery rate. In the next sections, several classical deterministic compartmental models are discussed in detail, including the history, the model description, the results and conclusions.
